Second visit to sinead at vive. Came Highly recommended from Uppermill community so thought worth giving a try with the long hours I work. She works wonders on my back every time I visit. Brought my cousin this time as a birthday treat and she loved it. Sinead found knots in her back she didn’t even know she had. Will definitely be returning 💞

We offer three types of treatment at Vive Therapy, Sports Massage and Relaxation Massage Therapy
As an Accredited Sports Massage Therapist with a BSc in Sport Science, Sinead has a wealth of experience treating and rehabilitating both sporting and personal complaints. As a keen trail runner and trainee Mountain Leader herself, understanding the mechanics of a sport or action and the impact upon the body is not only key to enabling its recovery, but also key in how the person approaches recovery.
But sometimes, it is not all about rehabilitation, sometimes it is taking 30 minutes to yourself to ease off a tense week. We all carry too much stress in the modern world, so allowing ourselves a break, to unwind in a calming and relaxing environment can provide strong mental and physical benefits. This is why we also offer general Relaxation Massages that use only Natural and Organic Products (From Neals Yard) that will make you feel brand new again.

What is a Sports Massage?
Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. Soft tissue is connective tissue that has not hardened into bone and cartilage; it includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (a form of connective tissue that lines and ensheathes the other soft tissues). Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.
Why would I need a Sports Massage?
There are many reasons a Sports Massage is beneficial and it doesn’t just have to be because you play a sport. Sport Massage can focus on repairing an area that is causing issues in other parts of the body. By identifying these areas and the range of movement in your body, it is easier to then located the root cause of the issue and manipulated the connective tissues to relieve the area.
Why is a Sports Massage Different to a Normal Massage?
There are a number of differences, generally the main one being the qualifications and knowledge that are involved in being able to deliver a Sports Massage are quite different. A sports massage therapist must be qualified in being able to assess and manipulate specific muscles structures in the body as well as intrinsically understanding the origin and insertion points of these muscle groups and how they link to both lymphatic and systemic systems to aid healing and repair.
Another difference is the pace and delivery. Normal massages are great for stimulating the muscles on an aesthetic level. Sports Massage delves much deeper and focuses on the area of concern in order to aid repair and healing.
What are the physical benefits of a Sports Massage?
- improved relaxation
- minimal muscle tension
- higher range of movement
- scar tissues improvement
- better recovery by raising blood circulation to the affected spot
- mitochondrial development, which is the power station for muscle
There is evidence on healing including lactate treatment or subsequent functionality benefits.
Greater overall flexibility. Massage expands muscle tissues in a multidirectional fashion, equally longitudinally and side to side. This may also have a comparable impact on the muscular sheath and around ligament, enabling the perfect release of stored pressure and stress.
Increased tissues permeability. Massage therapy leads to the tissue membrane microscopic holes to enlarge, enabling essential fluids and nutrients to go through a lot more easily. This allows waste material like lactic acid solution to be taken out easily and results in a situation whereby oxygen and nutritional requirements are swiftly sent to the target muscles, enabling a rapid recovery.
Improved micro blood flow. Massage boosts the the circulation of blood to the targeted muscle tissues in the same way as exercise. Furthermore, massage therapy also causes vessels of blood to dilate which allows fresh air and nutrition to be transported more conveniently.
What does a Sports Massage involve?
Therapeutic sports massage techniques incorporate warming-up, relaxation and getting ready for much deeper work. Along with rubbing, compressions, longitudinal and cross-fibre friction as well as tapotement, which is cupping or slapping for stimulation. A specialist could also use some other soft tissue methods such as stretching, myocardial as well as soft-tissue release, which are made to improve flexibility.
What can I expect from a massage?
A massage is a very relaxing experience. It is designed to relieve tired and tense muscles in order to aid better circulation, healing within the muscles and also have far reaching psychological effects. Therefore, we only use the most relaxing of products (Neals Yard) in a relaxing and calming environment to ensure every inch of your experience is soothing
What are the different types of massage Vive Offer?
We offer Full Body Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and a De-stress massage. Each Massage differs in products and techniques used. Pressure and pace is also a major difference in how each massage is delivered and we tend to work to the preference of the client to tailor a unique experience.
What do I need to wear?
Depending on where your massage area will be, depends on what you wear. All massages are delivered with dignity and privacy. We will ask you to generally undress to underwear level and place yourself onto the bed in private, before the therapist returns back to the room. We will then cover with a towel any area we are not massaging to ensure you are warm and secure at all times.
If you feel uncomfortable with any aspect, discuss this with us! We are happy to try accommodate to your needs as best we can!
What products do you use?
All our products are sourced via Neals Yard Remedies, and organic and premium range of products. Carefully chosen to give you the most relaxing experience, we have a range of oils, and fragrances to ensure your experience is once of warmth and relaxation!
How often should I get a facial?
Once monthly facials are recommended to help aid in the cell turn over process which happens approximately every 30 days. As we age, this cell turn over process slows down, contributing to dull sallow looking skin, fine lines, wrinkles, blackheads, congestion, and coarsely textured skin. Monthly facials assist your body in doing more efficiently what it is”supposed” to do on its own.
Will I have any skin redness?
Slight redness is normal after a facial, especially if you’ve received a large amount of extractions during your treatment. Slight redness may be experienced for a short amount of time, but should dissipate shortly after your facial service is completed. Certain skin types, including those who tend to be more sensitive, may be prone to experiencing more redness post treatment.
How can I maintain this at home?
Neals Yard offers a wide range of exceptional at home skincare products available for purchase from Vive Therapy. Not sure which product is right for you? Ask for a demonstration or to try the products we have. We hold free demonstration nights so you can use your products at home
